Co-Creating Patient Involvement in IHI-GREG

On 7 May 2026, EUPATI and Novo Nordisk delivered an in-person workshop on patient involvement during the IHI-GREG General Assembly in Copenhagen.

The session brought together consortium partners and members of the IHI-GREG Patient Advisory Group (PAG) to explore how meaningful patient involvement can be embedded across the project’s activities and Work Packages.

Building on the online training held in April, the workshop focused on translating patient involvement principles into practical actions. Participants discussed how patients can contribute throughout the project lifecycle, from shaping research priorities and activities to supporting dissemination and sustainability efforts.

A key focus of the session was developing project-specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to monitor and evaluate patient involvement. Discussions highlighted the importance of moving beyond tokenistic engagement and ensuring that patient perspectives meaningfully influence project decisions, research outputs, and outcomes.

During breakout sessions, consortium partners and PAG members worked together to identify opportunities for collaboration over the next 24 months and explore practical approaches for integrating patient involvement within individual Work Packages.

Several common themes emerged, including the importance of involving patients early and continuously, using a common language, integrating patient experience data into research activities, and measuring both the quality and impact of patient involvement.

The workshop marked an important milestone for IHI-GREG, laying the foundation for a structured and measurable approach to patient involvement throughout the project and reinforcing the consortium’s commitment to co-creation and patient-centred research.
