Let’s get to know Bojan, the next up on our EUPATI Secretariat spotlight series! Originally from Slovenia and now calling Brussels home, Bojan serves as our Partnerships and Operations Coordinator. Bojan quietly keeps the wheels of collaboration and day-to-day operations keep turning throughout the year.
We caught up with him virtually to chat about what his role really involves, how he approaches his daily routine, and a bit about the person behind the job title.

What’s your name & where are you dialling in from?
My name is Bojan Cigan, Slovenian by origin, living in Brussels, Belgium.
What is your main work stream?
As a Partnerships and Operations Coordinator, my main role is to oversee and manage our diverse, growing network of 55 partners – patient organisations, academia and industry. I’m also in charge of event organisation, helping out with governance meetings and related admin, and other operational tasks for our virtual office.
What is your favourite part of your role?
What I like most is the diversity of my tasks, as it constantly brings new challenges and ensures I’m never bored at work.
Describe your typical working day?
Not part of work, but something I’m a big advocate of – I always start my day with a long walk, and only then turn on my laptop. I quickly screen my e-mails, answer those that don’t need much effort or time, and then the usual routine follows – calls, and working on different streams. It really depends on the day and period: there are times when I need to dedicate more to our partnerships, and right now, for example, I’m mostly busy with preparations for our Annual General Meeting. And in between, of course, a shorter walk during lunch break, and throughout the day a few cups of coffee and green tea.
What is your favourite quote – be it for work or your personal life?
The first one that came to mind was “Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.” – often attributed to Oscar Wilde, but I noticed that it was – ironically – already taken.
The next one is from one of my favorite composers, Claude Debussy: “There is nothing more musical than a sunset.” I think it’s beautiful, it reflects the spirit of his stunning piano works (for example, Clair de Lune), and has a deep meaning for me as a reminder to be mindful and feel every moment.
