The World Health Organization (WHO) officially launched the Global Clinical Trials Forum on 7 of October. This is a major milestone in strengthening the global clinical trial ecosystem and promoting best practices worldwide.
EUPATI is 1 of 27 members who aim to strengthen clinical trial environments and infrastructure at national, regional and global levels.
EUPATI’s Executive Director Maria Dutarte notes ‘EUPATI is honoured to join the Global Clinical Trials Forum (GCTF) of the World Health Organization (WHO) and support the implementation of WHO’s Guidance for Best Practices for Clinical Trials, guidance developed at the request of World Health Assembly resolution WHA 75.8.
EUPATI welcomes WHO’s approach to advocating for patient & community as a norm and not an optional extra throughout the guidance and is committed to advancing the Global Action Plan for Clinical Trial Ecosystem Strengthening – and actions around patient & community engagement in particular.
It is today widely recognized that involvement of patients, communities and the public provide valuable contributions to the design, execution and interpretation of results of clinical trials. Close collaboration between patients and researchers fosters trust and ensures that the research questions are embedded in the true needs of patients and their communities.
EUPATI believes that capacity enhancing and training are essential in the implementation of WHO’s Guidance – and in building strong collaborations around meaningful patient and community engagement.
We look forward to joining all the members of the GCTF network and continuing to inspire everyone to join the efforts for enhancing patient involvement in clinical trials’.
