More about our team…Let’s chat to

Finn McCartney, a EUPATI Project Coordinator

As part of our ongoing series introducing the EUPATI Secretariat staff, we’re excited to help you get to know the people behind the scenes — what we do, how we support the EUPATI community, and who to contact for your area of interest.

In this edition, we speak with Finn, a EUPATI Project Coordinator, based in the Netherlands. Finn shares insights into his role and responsibilities, what a typical day looks like for him, and what he enjoys most about his work.

Stay tuned to learn more about the dedicated individuals working for the EUPATI Secretariat team.

What’s your name and where are you dialling in from?

My name is Finn McCartney. I am originally from London but for the past nine years, I have called The Netherlands my home.

What is your main work stream?

For the past two years, I am mainly involved in the projects that EUPATI is leading or coordinating. At the moment, that includes the HTA4Patients & GREG-EU projects. The former has a focus on building capacity in the patient community around Health Technology Assessment in the EU, while the latter is centred on Real World Evidence & Real World Data.

For both, I coordinate with internal and external colleagues to develop educational resources and trainings- aligning with EUPATI’s mission of patient involvement through education.

Outside of the projects, I am also the designated ‘game master’-  organising online team-building activities like quizzes and game to bring our remote team together.

What is your favourite part of your role?

That no two days are the same. One day I might be doing administrative work with hard rock in the background, presenting to external partners the progress made on a given task/ project or catching up with team members on what they have been up to. Sometimes it’s a little chaotic but this is, to me at least, when it gets fun and find a creative way to deliver.

Describe your typical working day?

Haha- I am not sure there is such a thing. Apart from my morning coffee ritual, my day varies depending on the tasks or deliverables due for a given project. Having said that, a typical day would involve reaching out or updating colleagues on the status of a project’s status, and making sure everyone is aligned on the ongoing tasks, changes, or challenges.

What is your favourite quote – be it for work or your personal life?

When I lived in the UK,  I was part of the Scouts and volunteered until I was 18. So I would say my favourite quote (more of a motto really) is the Cub Scout Law:

‘Cub Scouts always do their best
Think of others before themselves
And do a good turn every day.’

It is a little cheesy, I know,  but I think it applies to my personal and professional life- and it also reflects the values of the colleagues I have worked with and at EUPATI.

Thank you Finn for chatting to us about what you do at EUPATI. For any questions about the HTA4Patients or the GREG-EU Project contact Finn at [email protected].
