Vitalii Luchinskii, EUPATI’s IT and Toolbox Coordinator.
In this latest edition of showcasing our EUPATI Secretariat team, we sit down virtually with Vitalii Luchinskii and discuss his role and responsibilities as well as his working routine. Vitalii is the person behind the scenes keeping EUPATI’s digital gears running smoothly, managing everything from our websites to tech support.
Let’s get to know him a bit better!
What’s your name and where are you dialling in from?
My name is Vitalii, and I work from Helsinki, Finland. No matter how busy the day gets, the Baltic sea is always just a 10-minute walk away, which is the perfect place to clear my head and recharge.
What is your main work stream?
As the IT Coordinator, my main focus is keeping EUPATI’s technical heart beating smoothly. This involves managing and troubleshooting our main website, the EUPATI Toolbox, assisting with Open Classroom, as well as supporting our National Platforms with their web presence. I also coordinate web development and security, manage Toolbox translation workflows, and handle daily tech support for our wonderful team.
What is your favourite part of your role?
While I enjoy the variety of my technical tasks, my absolute favourite part is attending meetings with our students and partners. It is incredibly rewarding to see the real-world impact of our work and connect with the people we are doing all of this for. Behind all the strict technical details, servers, and code, knowing that we are genuinely helping people and making the world a slightly better place is what truly drives me.
Describe your typical working day?
As is customary in Finnish culture, my day always starts with a warm cup of coffee! Once the caffeine kicks in, I do a quick scan of our incoming mailbox routing and tech support requests to ensure the team has everything they need to work without friction. After that, I dive into more project-focused tasks — whether that’s coordinating with developers, tweaking website settings, or managing translation workflows.
During my breaks, I like to step away from the screen. Since I love cooking, you might find me kneading sourdough bread in the kitchen — there is something wonderfully meditative about the process, and the smell of fresh bread in the house is hard to beat! When I need a quick visual break, I also enjoy tuning into civil aviation spotting live streams, watching planes take off and land in different corners of the world.
What is your favourite quote – be it for work or your personal life?
Since I am passionate about personal finance and lifelong learning (I actually recently finished a fascinating course on sparkling wines and Champagne!), I love quotes about continuous growth. My favourite is:
“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” — Benjamin Franklin
Whether it’s mastering a new IT framework, learning the delicate science of baking, or understanding the complex world of finance, I believe curiosity and knowledge are the best resources we can invest in.
